On November 18, 2023, Busoga Kingdom witnessed history in the making as Kyabazinga Isebantu William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV married Inebantu Jovia Mutesi. This grand occasion, the first of its kind since 1956, blended tradition and modernity in a celebration that captivated over 20,000 guests at Igenge Palace. From the church ceremony to the glamorous reception, every detail was meticulously crafted to honor the kingdom's rich heritage.

The Venue: A Royal Reception at Igenge Palace

Nestled on a hilltop with stunning views of Jinja City, Igenge Palace set the perfect stage for a royal celebration. The décor, beautifully crafted by iCandy, was a vibrant mix of culture and elegance, turning the grounds into a breathtaking masterpiece.

The palace grounds stood as a testament to the kingdom’s opulence, welcoming guests from all walks of life to celebrate this momentous occasion.

The Church: Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe

The day began at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe, where Archbishop Stephen Kazimba Mugalu officiated the ceremony. The historic cathedral provided a fitting setting for the union of royalty. Among the distinguished guests was Vice President Jessica Alupo, representing President Yoweri Museveni, who honored the royal couple as a special guest.

Jovia started her day in a custom-made satin robe by Strat Bridal, setting the tone for elegance. The kimono-style design, embellished with delicate crystals, blended sophistication with comfort. As her glam team worked their magic, the robe’s understated sparkle caught the morning light.

Church Wedding Dress

For the church ceremony, the queen donned a lace wedding gown that drew inspiration from Catherine, Princess of Wales. Designed with a multi-layered skirt, three-quarter lace sleeves, and a V-neckline, the gown was the epitome of timeless bridal elegance. A diamond tiara added a touch of regal sophistication, completing her radiant look.

Reception Dress

At the royal reception, Jovia showcased her style evolution with a pearl-embellished mermaid gown. The form-fitting design, crafted by Hers Uganda, featured a hint of a cape on one shoulder, offering a contemporary twist on royal fashion.


Photoshoot Dress

For the official photoshoot, Queen Jovia Mutesi broke royal bridal norms with a daring black off-shoulder gown. Designed with a striking white sash insert cascading from the hips, the gown blended elegance with a touch of drama. Diamond earrings and a more delicate tiara added understated glamour, creating a unique look that stood out against traditional royal wedding attire.


The Kyabazinga’s Robe: A Royal Masterpiece

The Kyabazinga’s majestic purple robe was a collaboration between His Royal Highness and Lillian Kyabaki, one of Uganda’s most celebrated couturiers. Made from luxurious fabric sourced from Dubai, the 6kg garment featured intricate gold suede appliqué. Each detail of the robe paid homage to Busoga’s rich heritage, making it both a garment and a historical artifact.


The Cake: A Showstopper by Bake for Me

The wedding cake, crafted by Bake for Me, was nothing short of spectacular. Towering above the reception, it became a focal point of admiration while its taste remains a secret.
