A Summer of Love: 15 Footballers Exchange Wedding Vows Before New Season
While we know that the summer is when European leagues’ footballers get to relax and shed off the fatigue that comes with a season of football especially the hectic English Premier League schedule, it’s always a pleasant surprise when we get to witness them exchange vows with their WAGs. This past summer, the footballers took it a notch higher (hi Arsenal). And we basked in it.
As the new football season dawns this weekend, here is a sneak peek into footballers who wedded their significant others this past summer and what their weddings looked like.
Arsenal players took this summer’s crown for the most weddings in a team. We don’t want to insinuate that there was competition around getting married in the Arsenal dressing room but it wouldn’t come as a surprise given the average age of the Arsenal squad. The young team had four team members get married in the summer.
1. Aaron Ramsdale
Leading by example, Arsenal’s number 1, Aaron Ramsdale married his British airlines flight attendant fiancée Georgina Irwin, also co-owner of Gymnetix apparel company in a private ceremony on 20th June this past summer.
2. Jakub Kiwior
A new revelation at Arsenal, Polish football youngster Jakub Kiwior on 10th June married dancer, Claudia Kowalczyk nicknamed the ‘Queen of twerking’ in a low-key ceremony. Several Arsenal fans took to social media to congratulate the newlyweds.
3. Gabriel Magalhaes
Arsenal defender Gabriel dos Santos Magalhaes married namesake Gabrielle Figueiredo in a ceremony on 5th June 2023. The two have a baby girl together.
4. Ben White
Ben White Married his partner, the model Milly Adams in a low-key ceremony at the Old Marylebone townhall in London. They later walked the stairs in matching sunglasses. Milly took to Instagram to let the world know she had married her best friend.
5. Kepa Arrizabalaga
Kepa Arrizabalaga tied the knot with Spanish model and Miss Universe 2020 Andre Martinez at a Chelsea star-studded wedding in Marbella.
6. Scott Wright
Rangers star, Scott Wright took to instragram to announce his wedding with Suzannah on the 10th of June at the Old Course Hotel Golf Resort and Spa in the beautiful quaint city of St. Andrews at the coast of Scotland. His wedding was attended by many of his Scottish teammates.
7. David De Gea
Former Manchester United shot stopper, David De Gea wed his singer, actress and TV presenter fiancée, Edurne Garcia on 1st July in a picturesque ceremony at S’Hostal quarries on Menorca island.
8. Bernardo Silva
Champion’s league champion with Manchester City and Portuguese footballer Bernado Silva married Portuguese model Ines Degener Tomaz in a 250- guest ceremony at the Hilltop hotel on the Quinta Nova de Nossa Senorha do Cammo vineyard overlooking River Duoro in Portugal. He surprised his wedding guests who found out that his many talents including singing when he serenaded his wife at the function. His vocals were surprisingly great.
9. Keiffer Moore
Wales and Bournemouth Keiffer Moore married his longterm partner Charlotte Amy Russell. After a small ceremony in London in May, the big celebrations were held in Rome in June surrounded by family and friends. Many Wales’ teammates graced the ceremony.
10. Aymeric Laporte
On 24th June, Aymeric Laporte just weeks after winning the Champion’s league with Manchester city (despite just a handful of appearances for the club) married his ballet dancer fiancée Sara Botello in Barcelona. Only Rodri and Haaland were in attendance at his wedding.
11. Lautaro Martinez
After a phenomenal season in which he won the world cup and came close to winning the Champion’s league, Lautaro Martinez crowned the summer with a celebration of love. Thronged by teammates, friends and family, he married his long-term partner, Argentine model, Augustina Gandolfo at Lake Como in Italy.
12. Andre Gray
Shrouded in secrecy Andre Gray married singer Leighanne Pinnock at a private ceremony in Jamaica in June. Gray who currently turns out for Greek outfit Aris and Pinnock have a set of twins together.
13. Wilfried Zaha
Paige Bannister, a professional London model and Croydon born Wilfried Zaha, who until his wedding turned out for Crystal Palace, got married in a private ceremony on 1st July this past summer. Zaha has since joined Turkish side Galatasaray on a free transfer.
14. Bradley Dack
In her £ 30,000 wedding dress, reality star show Olivia Atwood took to Instagram to tell the world about her wedding with Bradley Dack that was held at London’s five-star Bulgari Hotel. One of the many attractions at the wedding was an 8-tier wedding cake.
15. Thibaut Courtois
Cortouis and his Israel model wife walked down the aisle at the Chateau de la Croix gardens in the French city of Cannes.
One last worthy mention is nineteen-year-old Chelsea youngster, Andrey Nascimento dos Santos who on 7th May in Brazil tied the knot with his girlfriend Yngryd Freire in a private ceremony. He signed for Chelsea from Vasco De Gama in January and is expected to join the team for this season.
