Tips for an Arabian themed wedding

Tips for an Arabian themed wedding

Arabian weddings are known for their colour, detail and dazzle which sometimes translates to extravagance. But we cannot fail to love them, because of their style, elegance and glamour. Here are a few tips when organizing an Arabian themed wedding!

Décor

Curtains in bright and dazzling colors are very popular in Arabian themes. Ask your décorator to hang curtains from the ceiling, coupled with shining and glittering lights as well as chandeliers. This creates a beautiful ambience and also a romantic feel.

Match this with pillows and linen; and it will ooze of luxury.  If it’s outdoors, drape colorful fabric around gazebos and pergolas and use it for as a seating area or a shisha lounge which will be quite popular among your wedding guests.

Color

In addition to intricate décor, Arabian weddings are known for being colorful. Orange, aqua, purple, red, dark blue, red are all ideal for this type of wedding.

Arabian wedding décor is incomplete without rich and luxurious fabrics. So have plenty of throws, rugs and pillows in a variety of fabrics like velvet, satin, silk, textured, plain, brocade, embroidered etc. Start with what you already have before renting stuff or even buying these things online. Many home furnishing shops as well as antique stores carry Arabic themed seating elements using which you create a perfect lounging area for your guests. Shawls, stoles and authentic Persian rugs are some other ideas for this theme.

Wedding cake

Your wedding cake will be weaved in intricate detail; it can be shaped in Arabic elements like Aladdin’s magic lamp. You could also go for a single heavily decorated cake with intricate Arabic motifs and designs. Your cake maker should be able to create a beautiful wedding cake with an Arabian-inspired theme. Discuss together different ways to give it an Arabian vibe.

Entertainment

To perfectly compliment your Arabian wedding theme, make sure to include traditional Arabic or Moroccan entertaining elements like belly dancing, sword balancing, dabke accompanied with live drumming or Arabic music. A host of entertainment can be fit into Arabian themes. From exotic instruments and Mehendi parties to traditional Muslim songs and dance forms and kawali singers. Bollywood numbers like Mughal e Azam can enthrall the guests while Mehendi designers, magicians, snake charmers will further spice it up.

Guests can watch a belly dancer move as they soak in the magical atmosphere with a Hookah and flavored tobacco or dish out succulent barbeque from the live grill.

Makeup and jewellery

Brides and bridesmaids can choose to go in for Arabic style makeup consisting of kohl lined eyes and darker eye-shadow and blushes. If you like, you can even have Arabic henna designs tattooed on your hand. Arabic wedding jewellery is bold, so opt for larger eye catching neck pieces and earrings set in rhinestones, diamonds or other precious or semi-precious stones.

Oh and do not forget the traditional Arabic head piece as you change to different attires.

Wedding attire

Generally, long pants or longer dresses and skirts are most appropriate. The couple should avoid showing bare arms and women might be expected to cover their heads too.

Food

Typical Arabic dishes are not complete without Pilau, Shawarma or barbecue, lots of salad, kebabs, falafel, hummus, lots of chapatti (nan) and bread. Tea is also a very Arabic beverage. Alcoholic drinks are usually a taboo at Arabian themed weddings but soft drinks, fresh juice and water are a good addition.

Desert fruits like dates, grapes and cake usually make for very good dessert.
